Indulge guilt-free in our Summer Apple Pie: Healthy Delight. This recipe combines the classic flavors of apple pie with a nutritious twist for a perfect summer treat.
Gather 6-8 apples (choose crisp varieties like Granny Smith or Honeycrisp), lemon juice, cinnamon, nutmeg, honey or maple syrup.
Peel, core, and thinly slice the apples. Toss them with lemon juice to prevent browning.
Mix together cinnamon, nutmeg, and your choice of sweetener (honey or maple syrup). Gently toss the apple slices in this mixture until evenly coated.
Combine whole wheat flour, oats, melted coconut oil or butter, and a pinch of salt. Mix until crumbly. Add cold water gradually until the dough comes together.
Roll out the dough on a floured surface to fit a pie dish. Press into the bottom and sides, trimming any excess.
Arrange the seasoned apple slices in the prepared pie crust, creating a mound in the center.
You can opt for a traditional double crust or a lattice crust. Seal and crimp the edges decoratively.
Bake the pie at 375°F (190°C) for 45-55 minutes, or until the crust is golden brown and the filling is bubbling.
Allow the pie to cool for at least 30 minutes before slicing. Serve warm or at room temperature, optionally with a dollop of Greek yogurt or a scoop of vanilla frozen yogurt.
